SHOE CARE

Shoe Care Tips for Longevity and Quality

Shoe Cleaning Tips
To keep your leather shoes looking their best, always start by removing dirt or loose mud with a soft, dry cloth. Use wax polish and apply it with a horsehair brush or a soft polishing cloth for a smooth, even finish. Don’t forget to remove the shoelaces, as they can block the polish from reaching the leather. Apply the shoe polish carefully to the leather uppers, making sure to work it in evenly. Once done, leave your shoes for at least an hour to allow the polish to absorb into the pores of the leather, providing a deeper shine and conditioning effect.

Suede Shoes Tips
For suede shoes, it’s essential to use a suede brush to gently remove surface dirt and dust. We recommend brushing your shoes both before and after each wear to keep them looking fresh. Always brush the nap (the soft surface of the suede) in one direction to maintain a consistent and clean appearance. This simple step will help prevent the suede from looking worn out and preserve its natural texture.

Use a Shoe Tree
A shoe tree is one of the most important accessories to maintain the shape of your shoes and extend their lifespan. By placing shoe trees inside your shoes after each use, you prevent the leather from developing creases and help the shoes retain their form. Additionally, shoe trees absorb moisture, particularly important when shoes are worn without socks, as this moisture can damage the leather over time. A shoe tree not only keeps your shoes looking fresh but also helps maintain their durability.

Use a Shoe Horn
A shoehorn is a simple tool that makes putting on shoes much easier and helps preserve their shape. It’s usually made of metal or plastic and has a slight curve. When inserting your foot into the shoe, the shoehorn is placed at the back of the shoe, guiding your heel in without crushing the stiff heel section of the shoe. Using a shoehorn regularly will reduce wear and tear on the heel, extending the overall life of your shoes.

Storage
Proper storage is key to maintaining the condition of your shoes. If your shoes get wet, stuff them with newspaper and let them dry naturally overnight—avoid direct heat sources as they can damage the material. Leather shoes should be stored in shoe bags, which protect them from dust, dirt, and harmful sunlight. For suede shoes, store them in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight. This ensures they remain in great condition and don’t fade or become misshapen.
